Mandatory Internet Censorship - How you can help stop it

We all need to take some form of action in order to stop this dictatorial censorship the government is forcing on us. Here’s what you can do:

Contact Senator Conroy - this will let him know that we as Australians do not agree with his unfeasible plan. You can write him a letter addressed to:-

Senator Stephen Conroy
Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy
Level 4, 4 Treasury Place
Melbourne Vic 3002

Or call him on (03) 9650 1188.

If you are not sure what you want to write, there are sample letters available at www.nocleanfeed.com or www.nocleanfeedforum.com

You should only use these letters as a template, as a personalized letter is so much more effective.

You can also email the Minister, although this is not as effective as a letter or phone call. His email address is minister@dbcde.gov.au

You can contact your local representative. They represent you and want to hear your concerns. To find your local member’s address go to http://www.aph.gov.au/house/members/index.htm

Contact your ISP. They can document your concerns to help them in their quest to stop this technically impractical idea. ISP’s don’t want this to happen. It will make their job so much harder, and we will have to bear the cost.

Visit the site http://www.wakinggiant.org/au_censorship.htm for detailed information on what this ridiculous internet filter will do to Australia and for information on how to sign the official Petition.

Also visit http://www.efa.org.au (the Electronic Frontiers Australia website) for even more info about the filter and why it is impractical and wont work. Have a look at the video clip on the post “EFA’s Dale Clapperton on Sunrise” to see an excellent 2 minute summing up of the censorship idea.

The filter is just another way for the government to control us. The propaganda about protecting our children is just a front. They know full well children can bypass the filter with no technical skill required and they also know that children can easily go into chat rooms and find out anything they want and download it through P2P networks, the filter will not stop this.

In addition, there is plenty of free software available to download from the government’s website to block porn sites and whatever else parents don’t want their kids looking at. It is not up to the government to act as a parent to everyone, it is perfectly legal for adults to look at porn if they want to (for example). Blocking everyone will only slow our Internet down to below dial-up speeds and put Australia’s productivity way back below where it is. If you have an Internet business you can say goodbye to that.

They want to waste $44 million during this “economic crisis” that we are hearing so much about, meanwhile they are ignoring other major problems like hospitals beingĀ  in dire need of funding. No government even knows how many more beds are needed in their hospitals to make them functional again. They haven’t even looked into it.

All they care about is control. They are blocking sites with “illegal” content and also “unwanted” content. What is this unwanted content they are talking about? No-one knows. They wont tell anyone. Tests show that filters block legal sites and well as illegal ones, and also that illegal ones can slip through.

I was happy when Kevin Rudd first became Prime Minister. But now after what he is doing to our country I have changed my opinion of him entirely. He’s going to turn us into China.
